Jonathan E. Mitchell

  • Jonathan E. Mitchell began his working career 45 years ago, when he joined Beneficial Standard Life Insurance Company, which was founded by his grandfather and which grew to become California’s fourth largest insurance firm before its sale to Cal-Fed in 1984.
  • Mr. Mitchell worked in all areas of the insurance and mortgage operations before ultimately becoming President of Beneficial Standard Properties, Inc. (BSPI), the real estate arm of BSC. He developed over 10 million square feet of space, consisting of office, retail, industrial and multi-family buildings. At the time of BSC’s de-listing, a limited partnership was formed with the assets of BSPI, called Benequity Holdings, and was put on the New York Stock Exchange. Mr. Mitchell was President of EDM Equities, Inc., the managing general partner of Benequity Holdings.
  • Since that time, Mr. Mitchell has been engaged in overseeing his family’s financial interests, which include publicly-traded securities, real estate (including two Hilton branded hotels that were completed last year) and more than 20 private equity enterprises in a wide array of industry sectors—from retail food and beverage to building materials, from cosmetics to equipment manufacturing, from financial services to textiles, etc.—and located in various parts of the world, such as Australia, China, Japan and the U.S. Having graduated from the Young Presidents’ Organization, he’s now a lifetime member of the World Presidents’ Organization.
  • Heavily committed to helping others, Mr. Mitchell is President of his family’s foundation, which contributes millions of dollars every year to worthy causes, primarily in the educational, medical and social services fields. He’s also on regional, national and international boards of a number of non-profit organizations, such as UCLA, and has received honors from a variety of leading charitable institutions.
